Senior Commodity Buyer

The Senior Commodity Buyer primary function is to expand upon the current functions of our commodity department to better serve our customers while providing better efficiency to empower future growth. This position is tasked with assisting our team in commodity origination while providing vital analytics, information and managing daily business requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for rail/truck origination of grain and feed products for internal customers.
  • Schedule and manage deliveries to and from our location to meet feedyard demand. Optimize arbitrage to locations.
  • Develop game plans and implement agreed upon strategies to procure assigned commodities and feed ingredients for utilization.
  • Analyze local, domestic, and global industry information to make recommendations and decisions that maximize profitability and meet operational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to provide superior service, market information, and the lowest cost options for feed ingredients and feed products.
  • Plan, manage, and maintain inventory levels in conjunction with management to balance operational and financial objectives.
  • Develop new relationships and maintain current with rail shippers, grain elevators and producers.
  • Utilize market data and risk strategy to ensure hedged commodities are traded against optimum market conditions.
  • Effectively resolve supplier pricing, overfills/underfills, quality and/or delivery issues.
  • Work with Commodity team to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate grain accounting records and reports, including month end activities.
  • Additional projects as assigned.

A successful candidate for this Senior Commodity Buyer will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Business, Economics, Merchandising, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in commodity merchandising

Compensation: $150,000 plus bonus
