Job Description

Farm Production Agronomist

Ag 1 Source is looking for a Farm Production Agronomist to work with a client on their Southeast MO farm locations. This is a production agronomist role, not a highly technical agronomist. This will work in a leadership capacity with these farms in conjunction with the farm manager to make sure all things are handled on the farm, recommendations followed, seed are planted properly, monitor soil moisture and make irrigation recommendations, track harvest and yields, etc. There will be some on farm trials, but no highly technical replicated plot work to be done with this role.

What’s in it for you:

  • Freedom to not work in an office, this is a fairly independent role where you are out watching the farm sites and fields, monitoring field activity and working with the team to make recommendations
  • Well established organization with great insurance and benefits
  • Next best thing to having your own farm when you cannot farm yourself
  • Provide leadership to the field team
  • Use your agronomic skills to ensure a great crop

What you will be doing:

  • Pre-season crop planning and field selection
  • Proper planting
  • Monitoring field conditions and make agronomic recommendations
  • Work with outside vendors for inputs
  • Monitor soil moisture and develop an irrigation schedule
  • Compile crop data to use for crop decisions going forward
  • Supervising soil and plant tissue sampling
  • Develop a few field trials each year
  • Helping to supervise interns and seasonal staff

A successful candidate for this Farm Production Agronomist will possess the following:

  • Production Agriculture background - need someone with more than "just a degree" we need someone who also has some practical experience even if it's internships
  • Solid understanding of crop inputs, fertility and making agronomic recommendations
  • Great communication skills, enjoy working as a team and can lead a team
  • Someone who wants to learn and grow their career
  • Ability to work independently as needed
  • Would prefer a couple years experience out of college, but for someone with the right background, internships or farm work themselves, we'd consider someone right out of school

Compensation: Will really depend on experience, but targeting $60-$90K base

Benefits: Yes, good benefit plan

Desired Location: Southeast Missouri or far Northwest Arkansas
