Commodity Merchandiser

This role will be responsible for

  • Commodity Purchasing and Sales: Buying corn and selling products like distillers grains and corn oil, both over the phone and in person.
  • Market and Inventory Analysis: Monitoring market conditions to maintain optimal inventory levels and control costs.
  • Contract Management: Accurately entering purchase and sales contracts into the accounting system.
  • Relationship Building: Collaborating with suppliers, producers, and customers to foster strong business relationships.
  • Support Operations: Assisting with corn grading, corn unloading procedures, and logistics management for inventory and transportation.

Expectations will include

  • Maintaining Market Knowledge: Staying current on trade area trends and CBOT grain prices.
  • Risk Management: Engaging in CBOT trades to offset risks associated with various contracts.
  • Effective Communication: Informing customers about inventory levels for DDGS and corn oil, and adjusting logistics accordingly.
  • Attention to Detail: Completing tasks accurately, including arbitrage trade tracking and hopper car subleasing paperwork.
  • Operational Support: Overseeing outbound MWDG load scheduling and supporting the scale room's unloading procedures.

A qualified candidate will possess the following

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in grain marketing; B.A. in Ag Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, strong business and accounting knowledge.
  • Personal Attributes: High integrity, detail-oriented, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal skills for clear and effective interactions.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to meet the job's physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a moderate noise level environment, with safety equipment as required.

Compensation: Can be flexible depending on experience, ~$95,000
